The Remorse of Objects

If objects were said to have the same capacity for thought and feeling as that of Man (which they do), the Shirt would say that it felt a great sense of remorse in the events that lead to its current position.

Had the Shirt not been so comfortable, its Owner would not have worn it to the point of repair.

Had the Shirt not looked so dashing, its Owner would not have caught the eye of the Seamstress as he tried on the mended garment.

And, had the Shirt not been so clean and white, the Owner's Wife would not have noticed the Seamstress's lipstick on its collar when the Owner returned home.

Now, as the Shirt lay on the floor, wrapped around the body of its Owner, a flower of blood blooming from the ragged hole the Bullet tore through the Shirt's left pocket, the Shirt did indeed feel remorse.

Not for its role in the situation at hand (for the Shirt selfishly decided in the end that it was actually NOT to blame), but remorse for the fact that it had become so stained and damaged that Another Shirt, who knew nothing of what transpired here, would carry the honor of accompanying the Owner to his final resting place, and be worn forever more.

Silky Sweet Story

Silky Sweet Story
Matthew Ryan Fischer

Of all his victims, Sheila was Robert’s favorite. Her hair was soft and long and hung down her back to her waist. He loved the feel of it and loved touching it. After he killed her, he sewed her hair into a shirt he was working on. He thought this would give him a lasting connection to his many failed loves (or victims, depending on perspective). But when he put the shirt on, his victims’ ghosts had other plans. The shirt constricted, choking him tightly. He struggled but could not remove it. The ghosts had him. Sheila controlled the collar and made Robert suffer, prolonging his death for as long as possible. Slowly Robert passed, all the while thinking just how nice the shirt felt against his skin.

How This Shirt Started

What began as a simple IM conversation on writing, was soon auto-corrected into a discussion about "shirt" stories.

The following shirts, err..shorts, were quick to be posted:

"No one ever believed Phillip.

No one ever listened to the ramblings of what they thought was a madman, but until his dying day, Phillip would insist it was the shirt that killed his beloved wife."

and...

"Sam is a beat cop who's seen the worst this city has to offer. Oxford is a button-down dress shirt who ended up on the wrong side of the law. Fate has forced them together to solve a murder that could ruin both of their lives.

They are, Cuffs and Collars."

A blog about Shirt Stories seemed like the logical next step.
